In Germany if you ask how big a house or a flat is, people often tell you how many square metres (=m²) it has. But in Britain and Ireland, people usually say how many bedrooms the house has. They probably won't be able to tell you about the area. A four-bedroom-house means that there are about seven rooms alltogether, plus kitchen and bathroom.
