Golf is much more popular in Britain and Ireland than in Germany. In the Federal Republic, there are only about 600 golf clubs for over 80 million people. The number of club members is less than 400,000. In Scotland, with a population of only 5 million, there are over 540 clubs with 480,000 members.
The figure in Ireland and England are similar. And there are also many public golf courses, where over 1.5 million people play regularly. Of course, there are exclusive golf clubs in Britain and Ireland. But golf is also a sport for "ordinary" people.
